You Are GAY... So What?

I heard the News that the Nigerian government has passed a law that criminalizes same sex relationships. You can be arrested for being gay and even thrown in jail for up to 14 years. In fact, in some Northern states, you could be sentenced to death. WHAT?????

Of course many took to social media to support the decision. They backed it up saying it's against the culture and major religions practised in Nigeria. I absolutely detest such ignorance. If you know me, you know how I feel about injustice towards the LGBT community. I know some people think that makes me less of a christian, makes me lukewarm, etc. Frankly, I don't care.

There needs to be a separation between the church and the state! You cannot pass laws based on your religious beliefs. Do I believe homosexuality is a sin? YES! So is pre-marital sex, adultery, fornication, lying, etc, If you're going to arrest people for being gay, you had better arrest everyone engaging in premarital, extramarital sex and every sin listed in the Holy books.

This is not an attack on the Nigerian government, which is why I am not going in on other things they could be spending their time deliberating on. This is a call to everyone, especially Christians,  to get off their horses and stop judging others. You call yourself a christian but hate homosexuals.  I was once evangelizing on campus and came in contact with this girl. While witnessing to her, she said to me"I don't like your God very much". I was shocked and asked her why. She responded "He hates my friends". Still perplexed, I asked her what she meant and she revealed to me that they are queer. She said there was a preacher downtown who always screamed that they were going to hell God hates them. My heart broke. It is so sad that Christians go about on their high horses  parading themselves as righteous and holy, condemning hose who identify as gay, when it is only by the grace of God we can be called his own.

It breaks my heart when gay people are shocked that I am friendly with them or nice to them because I am Christian. They expect me to judge them or be hostile because I don't agree with their way of life. I absolutely do not condone it but I won't treat you differently because you're gay. There's more to people than their sexual preference.

Jesus loves me regardless of my sins. He doesn't condone my sin but He loves me! He roots for me and pushes for me to become a better person. He is there for me when I need Him and won't cast me to the wolves because of my sin. As a Christian, I have a mandate to love everyone like He does!

Imagine being thrown in jail for being a Christian. There are reports of this happening in countries around the world. Don't you dare say it's not the same thing. These governments are doing the same thing ; passing laws based on religious beliefs. It is exactly the same thing.

Please think about that before you go about supporting such an inhumane and barbaric law.

God bess you all <3

  1. Laws like this take our eyes of the real issues that effect peoples human rights. I agree that the church and the state should be separate because we are in this world but not of it. Also the real gospel is a gospel of grace. In 1 Corinthians Paul discusses how we were once fornicators homosexuals ect. but we no longer practice that because Jesus showed us grace and mercy. The bible also states that they will know you by your love. Clearly there is no love there. The same bible states that if you are the best prophet or the best preacher whatever you are the best at is waste if you dont have love. Those who clam Christianity the nature of the new man calls us to love, God does not ask you if you MAY, He COMMANDS you to love. Its a COMMANDMENT people.

  2. I absolutely love you for this post babe!!! TELL THEM! The Nigerian government passing this violation on human rights as law is just the beginning of what's to come for Nigeria. The people agreeing with the govt had better do so when one by one their human rights are stripped from them because it won't end here. These lawmakers have no intention of serving the people and they know what buttons to press to capitalise on the ignorance of nigerians. Nigerians should be demanding constant electricity, good roads, a functioning health care system free education etc but no this distraction is what suits them. I am just tired of that country! *drops mic*

  3. Seyi, you are spot on. I was quite upset when I heard that this law was passed. The Nigerian government is playing on the beliefs of the citizens by passing this law. This law is a distraction from the real policies and practices that the government should be working on to make the country more prosperous. They are using this as a way to distract people from the real issues by winning agreement on one side so that people forget about the state of corruption within the government and other important things. Come election time, this will be the big ticket item that is waved to say, "look what we did for you, vote us in for another term". This is sickening. This is oppression.
