You Are GAY... So What?

I heard the News that the Nigerian government has passed a law that criminalizes same sex relationships. You can be arrested for being gay and even thrown in jail for up to 14 years. In fact, in some Northern states, you could be sentenced to death. WHAT?????

Of course many took to social media to support the decision. They backed it up saying it's against the culture and major religions practised in Nigeria. I absolutely detest such ignorance. If you know me, you know how I feel about injustice towards the LGBT community. I know some people think that makes me less of a christian, makes me lukewarm, etc. Frankly, I don't care.

There needs to be a separation between the church and the state! You cannot pass laws based on your religious beliefs. Do I believe homosexuality is a sin? YES! So is pre-marital sex, adultery, fornication, lying, etc, If you're going to arrest people for being gay, you had better arrest everyone engaging in premarital, extramarital sex and every sin listed in the Holy books.

This is not an attack on the Nigerian government, which is why I am not going in on other things they could be spending their time deliberating on. This is a call to everyone, especially Christians,  to get off their horses and stop judging others. You call yourself a christian but hate homosexuals.  I was once evangelizing on campus and came in contact with this girl. While witnessing to her, she said to me"I don't like your God very much". I was shocked and asked her why. She responded "He hates my friends". Still perplexed, I asked her what she meant and she revealed to me that they are queer. She said there was a preacher downtown who always screamed that they were going to hell God hates them. My heart broke. It is so sad that Christians go about on their high horses  parading themselves as righteous and holy, condemning hose who identify as gay, when it is only by the grace of God we can be called his own.

It breaks my heart when gay people are shocked that I am friendly with them or nice to them because I am Christian. They expect me to judge them or be hostile because I don't agree with their way of life. I absolutely do not condone it but I won't treat you differently because you're gay. There's more to people than their sexual preference.

Jesus loves me regardless of my sins. He doesn't condone my sin but He loves me! He roots for me and pushes for me to become a better person. He is there for me when I need Him and won't cast me to the wolves because of my sin. As a Christian, I have a mandate to love everyone like He does!

Imagine being thrown in jail for being a Christian. There are reports of this happening in countries around the world. Don't you dare say it's not the same thing. These governments are doing the same thing ; passing laws based on religious beliefs. It is exactly the same thing.

Please think about that before you go about supporting such an inhumane and barbaric law.

God bess you all <3

Why Can't We Just Be One?

Presbyterian, Baptist, Anglican, Evangelical, Pentecostal,  Orthodox,Lutheran, Methodist, Seventh day adventist ...  I honestly can't keep up. I was raised Baptist, however, at the age of 17, I moved away from home and started attending a Pentecostal church and I still do. However, I am non denominational. I am Christian.

There is so much division in the church today, it is so sad. Everyone thinks their church is better than others. We quarrel, tear down churches who don't agree with their doctrine. We immediately snob those whose beliefs are different from ours. What saddens me the most, is that a lot of these differences are things God most likely won't judge us on.

I encountered some Seventh Day Adventists on campus early last year and we got talking about the Sabbath. The Seventh Day Adventists believe Saturday is the Sabbath. As such, they have their worship service on Saturdays. One of them asked me what day I my church holds it's main service and I told her Sundays. They proceeded to tell me about how God commands us to rest on the Sabbath and by choosing to worship on Sundays, I am disobeying the commandment since Sabbath is on Saturday. One of them said I would have to stand before God concerning that. They believed God would condemn me. Rather than argue with them, I let them knowApostle Paul, in Romans 14:5  says whichever day you choose to be Sabbath is acceptable.

I know there are some denominations/churches/people who are against women wearing pants, make up, hair extensions, jewelry, nail polish, etc. Do I wear these things, YES! Do I think there is anything wrong? NO! My conscience is clear concerning these things. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was once under the ministration of a Pastor who once said, as a man or woman, if you wear jewelry, you will go to hell. I immediately rejected that. That is where I have to disagree. It's one thing to say this is my opinion about this but saying they would go to hell is unbiblical.

A few months ago, encountered a group of reformed evangelicals and we got talking about  the issue of speaking in tongues. They thought it was meant for specific people and specific times. I politely disagreed with reference to the scripture. Oh gosh! They looked at me like they wanted to yell in my face "BLOODY SACRILEGE" No seriously, I felt they were a bit belligerent. They must have been thinking 'Get away from us you  heathen'.They made it seem like because I had a different opinion about that, I was less of a Christian. If i wasn't sure about my identity in Christ, I would have felt bad about myself. Now, I am not saying all Reformed people are this way. No not at all. I think it's just people from that specific church. I kid.

While ALL Christians probably never agree on everything, we should make allowance for differences in opinion. Let's love one another and encourage one another. Let's focus on the important things and stop quarrelling about the flimsy things.Let's not, in the words of Jesus,  ‘strain at a gnat and swallow a camel.’ (Matt 23:24)  Say 'NO' to Legalism  and let us live in unity :)

Jesus also prays and pushes for unity among christians. Before his arrest, he prayed this for us “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. (John 17:20-21)

While I am all for unity in the body of Christ, I am not saying any church is fine. NO! If your church's doctrines are unbiblical, please leave. I f your church teaches that Jesus is not the son of God, or that Jesus wasn't born of a virgin, or that you need to go through anyone dead or alive, in order to connect to God,  or anything funky like that, Honey, you had better switch churches ASAP! If you are not sure about your church's doctrine, see if it lines up with the word of GOD!

DISCLAIMER : I know I have talked about specific churches/denominations but I 'd like to say I am not in any way against them. I know an awesome brother who is Seventh Day Adventist and he is one of my favourite worship leaders! Shout out to O'Neil! Hehe. Also, one of my very best friends is reformed. He is the most Christ-like person I know. Hey Andrew :)  So, I am not in any way bashing any church/denomination. Far from it.  All I am saying is, we are one body in Christ. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

I understand that this issue is controversial, so feel free to let me know what you thing, whether you agree  or disagree, in the comment section below :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

WOW! I made it! 2013 was such a roller coaster. I went through some really tough times. I dealt with so much pain and hurt. I cried, I laughed. I mourned. I rejoiced. I lost my way. I found my way. I  went through a dark and lonely time, a very close family friend committed suicide, my friend got married, another friend had a baby, I made a new friend, and most importantly, I fell in LOVE... with a cat. LOL. No seriously, she is the cutest thing ever.

I reviewed my 2013 goals and can I be honest with y'all?  I Laughed Out Loud! Such a FAIL! LOL. Not entirely though.

I achieved all my personal goals which were to:

smile more often
choose to be happy no matter the situation (I did this for the most part)
choose to love everyone regardless of their personalities (Sometimes it was hard but I tried..lol)
Be kinder to people
Improve my communication skills
Volunteer
Cut off my relaxed ends (I am fully natural baby!!!!)

As for my health goals, Hahahahaha! You know how I said I wanted to lose 20lbs, well i gained 20lbs. No thanks to my new friend whose favourIte things to text/say were 'Dinner tonight','Dinner next week', 'Let's check out this restaurant'? LOL. Yes I blame my friend. I had no choice but to say YES all the time :)

Also, I wasn't consistent with the blog. In fact, I didn't blog for 6months. However, I am proud of myself for sticking with it. I noticed on December 31st that I had had 1230 page views in 2013! That freaked me out a little because I didn't think that many people read this blog. Also I had people reading from Canada, Nigeria, Cameroon, Russia,United States, Germany and the Netherlands. Thank you all for reading and thank you to those who give me feedback. Also a big thank you to readers I have never met who checked on me while I was on hiatus.  I really appreciate you all.

Although 2013 was filled with ups and downs, there is one thing that was reaffirmed  GOD CAN BE TRUSTED! So as I go into the year 2014, I go in with the confidence that I serve a faithful and reliable God. He can be trusted. This year, I wouldn't be doing any resolutions. I just plan to be the best version of myself I can be.

This song describes 2013 perfectly. Whatever you go through this year, DO NOT lose your hope, your joy, your faith or your praise. GOD CAN BE TRUSTED!

He's just not that into you!

Hello guys!

Happy New Year! Time really flew by huh?  I will do a New Year post sometime  next week :)

Today's blogpost is inspired by a message this really sweet girl who would like to be anonymous sent me. This girl REALLY likes this guy. She's liked him for quite sometime now and he seems really sweet. However, when he's around his friends, he doesn't talk to her. He hardly initiates their conversations. She would like to know why he doesn't talk to her in public and if she should ask him out since he seems to like her.

I blogged  about whether girls should ask  guys out. If you haven't read it yet, you can click right here So let's get to the other issues. Why can't he talk to you in front of his friends? Maybe he is embarrassed of you? Maybe he has a girlfriend and he's trying to make you his side chick? I honestly can't answer why he can't talk to you in front of his friends. However, you know who has the answer? He does! If i were you, I'd totally ask him.  If he can't talk to you in public, he shouldn't talk to you in private.

Just a side note : when a person  asks you to keep your relationship  private, please listen to the warning bells. I am obviously not saying you should post everything about your relationship on Faebook/Twitter/Instagram etc. However, you should be able to tell people you are in a relationship with him/her.

I know you said he seems to like you but that's not enough. You can't just assume he likes you. He needs to express that in words to you. Maybe that's just me but I am not a mind reader so unless someone expressly tells me how they feel, I make no assumptions. So maybe he is just not that into you. I am not trying to be mean here. I have been in your shoes before.

I used to have a crush on this guy. He was so sweet, charming and really good looking.  He very nice to me, he made me laugh a lot, and we would chat for hours and flirt back and forth. We talked very often until I realized that I was the one who initiated our conversations 80%of the time. It wasn't good enough for me, so I decided I was going to stop messaging him first. He did say he liked me, but it didn't mean anything to me because I really believe people make time for what's important to them. I think he got the message, because he started messaging me to say hello.  By the time he got the memo, I was over my crush. LOL I am not saying he always has to initiate the conversation, I am saying it should be both ways.

This applies to friendships as well. I used to have A LOT of 'friends' until I noticed  that I was the one who put in the work in most of the friendships. I realized that without me messaging or calling, there was zero communication. So I stopped initiating conversations and that was the end of our friendship. I am not saying they were bad people. Some of them truly regarded me as their friend, but  took our friendship for granted and just got comfortable with me being the one reaching out all the time. Friendship is a two way street. Like I said before, people make time for what is important to them.
